Yesterday I went to a talk because I was attracted by the topic. The title contained the combination of names of two mathematicians which signified that we probably studied the same objects or, to a less extent, related objects. I wonder if research is mainly about giving good tags to new objects so that people can spot relations more easily.
In the past, a lot of objects have taken up names that are used in everyday English. Nowadays we start to throw people's names around, possibly because the vocabulary of everyday English has been exhausted. When a mathematician contributed to too much, his name actually disappears because his name would have lost the value of mnemonics and made everything extra verbose.
And there was an amazing coincidence of the q in knot theory and modular forms.
